Signals & Sounds - Morse Code
Written on November 8th, 2024 by SS
Join a radio amateur discussion, exhibition, and concert where the history and future of Morse code are intertwined! The event takes place at Loftskeytastöðin, the old Telegraph Station on Suðurgata, the first of its kind, established on June 17, 1918, enabling Iceland to connect with the world through wireless communications. In these two events, we explore how Morse code shaped Icelandic telecommunications, its relevance in the age of technology, and how artists interpret it.
A sonic experimentation in collaboration with Robin Morabito: Instead of treating words as a sequence of letters translated into Morse Code, we designed an auditory display where the words are transformed into layered complex rhytmic and tonal entities using SillyCode, a live coding interface based on SuperCollider designed for text sonification.
